From Vienna to the World: JCI Strengthens Collaboration with the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens

JCI is proud to have deepened its partnership with the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens (BKMC) during a significant week of multilateral engagement and global cooperation in Vienna, Austria.


At the recent BKMC Board Meeting, held in the heart of Vienna and co-chaired by H.E. Ban Ki-moon, 8th Secretary-General of the United Nations, and Dr. Heinz Fischer, former Federal President of Austria, JCI’s Secretary General Elvin Teo, was officially welcomed as a new Board Member of the Centre.


This high-level meeting focused on shaping the strategic direction of the BKMC, including expanding its global network, enhancing its flagship programs, and deepening its influence in the fields of youth empowerment, climate action, and gender equality.


JCI at the UN Vienna: Advancing Multilateral Action

JCI reaffirmed its commitment to multilateral cooperation through active participation in the BKMC co-organized event at the United Nations Vienna:“Multilateralism in a Complex Era: A Call for Renewed Commitment and Collective Action.”


Representing JCI, Partnerships Director Nathalia Cárdenas joined global leaders, diplomats, and changemakers in an engaging dialogue centered on the critical need for inclusive, cross-sector partnerships to address today's interconnected challenges.


The event underscored the importance of collaborative approaches to global governance and the power of youth-driven initiatives in building a more resilient, equitable, and sustainable future.


A Shared Vision for Global Citizenship

JCI and the Ban Ki-moon Centre share a long-standing commitment to empowering youth as proactive global citizens. Our growing collaboration includes joint efforts across key programs such as:

  • The International Human Duties Initiative

  • The JCI Creative Young Entrepreneur Competition

  • Participation in the JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons (TOYP) Program

  • The co-development of training initiatives


This strengthened partnership reinforces our shared belief that leadership must be inclusive, forward-thinking, and grounded in action.
