JCI and Crocodile Foundation Launch Global Grant to Fuel Grassroots Impact

JCI is honored to announce a landmark strategic partnership with the Crocodile Foundation, officially launching the JCI - Crocodile Foundation SDG Community Grant. This collaborative initiative is designed to empower young global citizens by injecting vital resources into high-impact community projects. Rooted in a shared commitment to sustainable development, the grant aims to transform JCI members into effective community leaders capable of driving measurable progress toward the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).

A Legacy of Service and Shared Values

The partnership is built upon the enduring legacy of the late JCI Senator Dato’ Dr. Tan Hian Tsin, founder of the Crocodile Foundation. His vision was deeply grounded in the JCI creed that “Service to Humanity is the Best Work of Life.” By combining the Crocodile Foundation’s financial stewardship with JCI’s extensive grassroots network, this grant seeks to deploy capital where it is needed most. The collaboration focuses on addressing the root causes of poverty and inequality, moving beyond temporary relief to foster long-term, self-sustaining community resilience.

The Multiplier Effect: Transforming Support into Ownership

A core differentiator of this initiative is its unique “1-to-1 Matching” model. To ensure local ownership and sustainability, successful applicants must match the grant funding with equal contributions from local partners, sponsors, or internal fundraising.

“This grant is about more than just funding; it is about partnership,” said JCI Secretary General Elvin Teo. “By requiring a matching commitment, we are encouraging our Local Organizations to build strong coalitions within their own communities, effectively doubling the impact of every dollar granted.”

Selected projects will receive up to USD $10,000, targeting initiatives that deliver tangible benefits in three primary focus areas:

  • Children: Safeguarding youth and providing developmental opportunities (SDG 4).

  • The Elderly: Enhancing quality of life and preventing economic exclusion for aging populations (SDG 3, SDG 8).

  • Healthcare: Bridging the gap in medical access for remote or underserved communities (SDG 3, SDG 6).

Putting Strategy into Practice

This grant serves as a catalyst for the JCI Action Framework 2.0. Grant recipients will adopt standardized metrics to ensure rigorous governance and data-driven impact reporting. The initiative emphasizes accountability, requiring detailed operational plans that will eventually form a “Project Playbook”—a knowledge-sharing resource designed to help other Local Organizations replicate successful models across the globe.

Looking Ahead

Applications for the grant is now open. JCI looks forward to working hand-in-hand with the Crocodile Foundation to support the top projects from Africa & the Middle East, Asia & the Pacific, the Americas, and Europe. Together, JCI remains dedicated to a future where young leaders are equipped not just with resources, but with the responsibility and support to build a better world.
